Into the Woods took place on August 4-5, 2017 at St. Francis Xavier School featuring performers of the Morris Park Players ages 14-20.
Production Notes (as stated in the Playbill): "Unlike most productions of Into the Woods, our show looks to emphasize that you do not need to go out into the woods or even leave your house to be confronted by the lessons and morals we learn there.
Our actors only enter the story behind the masks of their characters. But who are the people exemplified behind the guise? Who is the little girl under the cape and is she as human as her predator, the wolf?
Our narrator is much like each of us, simultaneously immersed in the story but also unable to engage with the characters or manipulate their course or actions. The only point that he is able to interact with characters is when he has himself entered the story and must act at its will.
Life is a series of morals, mistakes made, and lessons learned. Sometimes we're lucky enough to be able to learn from others' mistakes - whether or not we choose to make the same mistakes is our own choosing. That is why stories are written, told, and performed - so that we can open our eyes to new perspectives, situations, and people. We live in the narrator's shoes, witnessing the antics of others and participating in our own. Our individual character is a compilation of our knowledge, experience, and decisions.
Unlike these characters, we write our own stories."
