Sweeney Todd: School Edition took place on February 16-19, 2017 at Salesian High School featuring performers of the Salesian Players ages 14-18.
This production was set in the ruins of Fleet Street in no particular time period. The ensemble narrates the ballads by the glow of flashlights, reminiscent of the telling of ghost stories. The cast wears black and while, like an old photograph and as a depiction of the world we would like to see as black and white. Sweeney is the only character dressed in gray, representing what lies between those extremes. The world is not all black and white, and the production emphasized the idea that everyone is human and not all good nor bad. By Act II, he and Mrs. Lovett also add a touch of red to their costumes, scarlet letters for the crimes they have committed. Watch the full production below and read the Playbill here.
